Young Writers Austin
guidance for creative and academic writers, ages 8-18
Workshops
Workshops are divided into time spent in conversation and time spent writing and sharing. First, students talk as a group about what's going on in their lives: their successes, their stresses, their coping mechanisms. Once their minds start to quiet, the students take time to write and share their work. The writing becomes either a complete diversion from stress or a way to process emotion. Sharing is optional with feedback positive unless otherwise requested. Most students love the workshops so much they sign up month after month, so space is limited. Classes are capped at six students and are in person. I'll be adding two new classes soon, so if you have a grade preference, let me know!
"Under normal circumstances, the writing group is a great creative outlet. During rougher weeks, it's almost therapeutic. On days that have otherwise been boring or lonely, it's an opportunity to hang out with friends. Most importantly, it is the only place that I know of where I can say (and write) completely insane things and no one bats an eye."
