About

Welcome! My name is Jennifer Hritz, and I founded Young Writers Austin in June of 2014. I'm an Austin-based novelist with a PhD in American Literature, and I offer guidance in creative and academic writing for children ages 8-18. With thirty years of experience writing, editing, and tutoring students of all ages, I'm excited to work with your child.

I offer month-long, weekly creative writing workshops for students in 6th-12th grades, with occasional workshops for younger grades. Non-binary and trans students welcome! I also provide private writing instruction for all genders. Workshops are in person, though I'm happy to create a Zoom class for your child and their friends.

For frequently asked questions, including those regarding gender, please see FAQs.

"Jennifer's workshops have become such an integral part of our daughter's overall well-being. It's been so powerful -- the chance to sit with a group and hash out the complexities of tween/teen life, to hear and to be heard, to know that you are not alone in the tumbling drama and endless inner questions of middle and high school. And then the writing! Our daughter is thriving on having this weekly nurturing space, with Jennifer's enthusiastic encouragement to dive deep in her creative work, and to share her writing with her peers."
